FENESTRAE
Civil Protection Plan Digitalization through Internet of Things Decision Support System based Platform
Project Summary
FENESTRAE is a cross-border initiative involving Italy, Slovenia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Albania, Macedonia and Greece, with the aim of addressing the challenges of the energy transition and contributing to the achievement of climate neutrality by 2050, in line with the European Green Deal. The project combines research and innovation in the sectors of clean energy, sustainable construction and restructuring practices, following the principles of sustainable development promoted by the IPA ADRION program.
The consortium FENESTRAE brings together academic partners and development centers, combining unique skills to advance cutting-edge technologies for smart buildings. The main focus is on innovative materials such as electrochromic and thermochromic systems, and ICT tools dedicated to energy efficiency. The initial activities involve an in-depth analysis of existing regulations and technical standards, to propose harmonized actions in the field of energy-efficient building practices. Training and knowledge sharing between partners will strengthen collaboration and stimulate innovation.
Through technology transfer, the promotion of entrepreneurship and the development of innovative solutions, FENESTRAE aims to promote economic transformation, create sustainable job opportunities and raise awareness among communities about the importance of responsible energy use in the territories involved.
The FENESTRAE project aims to:
- Promote the large-scale adoption of innovations related to the adaptive control of building surfaces, with a focus on windows, to achieve energy savings and reduce environmental impact.
- Develop and apply photo-electrochromic and electrochromic technologies, combining with smart solutions to optimize energy performance and living comfort.
- Carry out demonstration pilot actions, to test and demonstrate the effectiveness of the technologies developed in real contexts.
- Promote transnational initiatives, aimed at improving cooperation between the different actors of the so-called "quadruple propeller" (research, public sector, private sector and civil society), promoting innovation and the dissemination of the proposed solutions.
The FENESTRAE project aims to obtain the following results:
- Establishing a permanent cross-border network: members of the cross-border network, including project partners, external experts and stakeholders identified through the quadruple-helix approach, will continue to meet at least once a year even after the conclusion of the project, to analyse the state of development of innovations related to cross-border smart glazing systems.
- Subscribe to the Common Plan for the adoption of smart technologies to support the use of smart windows and solutions capable of controlling energy flows through building surfaces. This plan will include guidelines in terms of national regulations and local incentive policies.
- Develop a joint solution for commercial upscaling. This solution could be promoted by one or more start-ups or SMEs in the ADRION region for commercial use
- Disseminate the results through workshops, public seminars, school events and awareness-raising activities in local communities to encourage virtuous behavior and the dissemination of developed technologies.
