From the comparison to the field: the 5th RENEWAT Interregional Meeting in Campobasso

The 5th Interregional Meeting of the RENEWAT project, which GAL Molise had the pleasure of hosting at its Business Incubator, in Via Monsignor Bologna in Campobasso, has been successfully concluded.

An appointment that brought together partners from different European countries for two intense days of discussion, sharing and exchange of experiences, all dedicated to the themes of sustainability, the enhancement of historic mills and opportunities related to renewable energy.

The first day: work and strategic insights

The first day took place on site and saw the participants engaged in working sessions on topics of great strategic importance: the economic and financial feasibility of the projects, the protection of cultural heritage in recovery interventions, the territorial analysis of the Molise water mills and international experiences in professional training for the hydroelectric sector.

In the afternoon, the partners moved to the Piana dei Mulini for a study visit guided by archaeologist Alessandra Capocefalo. An experience designed to deepen the historical and cultural heritage of water mills, but also to analyze their energy potential and recovery and repowering opportunities, imagining together new perspectives of sustainable development for these extraordinary places.

The second day: a journey through Molise's milling heritage

The second day led the European partners to discover some of the most significant testimonies of the regional heritage:

  • Parco dei Mulini – Santa Maria del Molise
  • Antico Mulino Di Iorio – Macchia Valfortore
  • Antico Mulino Di Niro – Cercemaggiore

Thanks to the availability and passion of the owners, the participants were able to get to know the cultural and identity value of these places, deepening issues related to hydroelectric energy, environmental education and future development prospects for the mills and the communities that guard them.
