CAMPOBASSO. In the last session, the Municipal Council of Campobasso approved membership of the GAL Molise Renewable Energy Community. “This is a significant step that transposes national and European directives on energy self-consumption and is fully part of the strategic objectives of the municipal administration. Among these, the promotion of innovative models of sustainable territorial development and the implementation of concrete measures for efficiency and energy saving stand out, fundamental tools to combat energy poverty and face the serious crisis in the sector," they explain from Palazzo San Giorgio.
The REC GAL Molise aims to promote distributed production, exchange, storage and sale of energy from renewable sources for self-consumption; reduce energy and social poverty; promote independence and energy autonomy; encourage energy efficiency and the reduction of withdrawals from the electricity grid.

"Molise, according to a recent ranking, is the third Italian region by incidence of energy poverty, preceded only by Calabria and Basilicata. This means that two out of ten families struggle to pay their bills and warm up properly," said Valter Andreola, councilor delegated to energy communities and energy efficiency.
Joining the REC GAL Molise represents a no-cost operation for the municipal administration, but with important social and environmental benefits. The administration hopes for an active participation by citizens, companies, territorial organizations and economic operators with headquarters or interests in the municipal territory and in neighboring areas.
The Municipality of Campobasso will assume the role of ordinary member and promoter of the Energy Community on its territory, with the aim of facilitating communication and involvement of citizens. The latter, together with other admitted subjects, will subsequently be able to apply for membership in the REC GAL Molise.
